Emptying Schema

L's current obsession is with emptying baskets or boxes.

She will happily sit and empty her book basket one book at a time, sometimes stopping to flick through a title. Before moving back to the basket to continue emptying it.

She upends her box of bricks causing a cascade of wood to clatter on the floorboards. She will then sit and taste a few and make sure that the basket is properly empty.

She loves nothing more than to have all her muslins in a basket for her to pull out and chuck around her. Even better if it is the entire washing basket however!

This is where a toy I brought L when she was about four months has come into its own. It is a fabric bucket with small fabric shapes which each have varying textures and sounds. L was a fist happy to just hold this toy and wasn't able to either pull  things out or watch things go in.

Now however, L really enjoys sitting with this bucket, turning it over to look through the clear base and shaking it.

It has also prompted me to experiment with different baskets. Discovery baskets. Look out for a few ideas in the coming weeks.

  1. This is so cute. Toby does this too - he started trying to play with a magazine basket we have so I put a load of his toys in it and he loves to take them all out. He hasn't quite mastered putting them back in again yet though!
