Me and You and Ballet

Lucy over at Dear Beautiful is spending the year celebrating her near ten year relationship with her husband. She has written of how in our joy and excitement to record our children's achievements, fun and faces we forget to record our own relationship and this needs looking at and considering.

I whole heartedly agree with the sentiment that at the foundation of our families is the relationship from which it all started. And all families need strong foundations. Long after children have grown and flown the nest the relationship between the couple remains.

So in this spirit I am linking up with Dear Beautiful in the linky Me and You. A celebration of relationships which support families, relationships which deserve time and attention.

Before we became Mummy and Daddy Morkus J and I loved eating out, we loved cocktails at fancy hotels or bars and eating in a variety of restaurants. We went out to musicals, theatre and ballet. We relished London living to the max on date nights and weekends. We were incredibly lucky to be able to afford to indulge ourselves in this lifestyle.

Now we are parents we have less time to indulge ourselves in these enjoyments. It is harder to organise as we need to ask babysitters to come and be with L. Also as I am still breastfeeding during the day I couldn't be away from L for a whole day without needing to pump and dump. Lots more to consider than which restaurant to eat in or if we will need to make a reservation!

This week we are off on a date afternoon/evening. L very kindly brought me tickets to the ballet so that I and her Daddy could indulge in some us time.

We ate at my favourite restaurant from our couple days. We last went here in fact on the day J proposed. He was jumpy and skittish and I have chipped nail varnish, ironically thinking no one looks at your nails! Two hours after lunch here every jeweller on Hatton Garden had admired my chipped nail varnish.

Our relationship has changed since L arrived but changed for the better. J got me through the scariest, most painful and ultimately joyous birth of L. He supported me through weeks of incapacity following the caesarean. He is truly wonderful. (He might be reading and getting embarrassed but I don't care) And I want to continue building our relationship and firming up the foundations of our family.

  2. Ahhhh, that is such a lovely photo of you both. And I'm so glad to have you joining in.
I'm also so jealous that you went to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. I love Matthew Bourne, and studied his Swan Lake at college. I've seen a few of his other works, but never managed to get to Swan Lake. And there is no way I'd convince my hubby to go with me, he's rather pull his own hair out I suspect. x

    1. Oh such a shame, it is very funny as well as being technically brilliant. I was wonder stuck watching.

If you want to go I would happily go again and again.

    1. It is so easy to forget to take couple photos when you're a family. Date nights are our only really opportunity.
