Forming Habits to Last a Lifetime

Daddy and Daughter sharing a favourite book. This one is Daddy's favourite. He even did voices.

My bedtime routine includes a book, be it reading one or listening to one. This has been my habit for as long as I can remember. I would read late into the night with my mum coming in to turn off my reading light into teenagehood. Some of my fondest childhood memories centre around being read to or being in a favourite bookshop. I was regularly left in Waterstone's while my mum browsed Laura Ashley. I had a library card from babyhood and my first piece of official mail was an overdue notice.

I want this for L.

I have already written about L's library card and our regular trips to the local library. We took Daddy this week and he helped us choose new books.

I have set up the bookshelves in L's bedroom so that my books, acquired during years of teaching, are ready for us to share with L. She has a small selection of her own books which will hopefully continue to grow.

Everything is set up to help L form this habit of a lifetime.

  1. This is so lovely! I am about to sign up Peanut at our local library - I am an obsessive reader and I think that books are the best gifts in life (and that makes Christmas shopping easy for me :-))!

  3. It's great to encourage them into reading young. From the moment my son could crawl, he would crawl across to his basket of books and bring one after the other for us to read to him, I just hope it continues.
    Lovely post
